Jammu and Kashmir will emerge model state: Omar Abullah
Saying that many developmental activities have been undertaken in the state despite several hurdles, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Wednesday that he was committed to making Jammu and Kashmir a model state.
The chief minister was speaking at a rally of the National Conference party at Marh, on the outskirts of Jammu.
"The historic initiatives, and the achievements on the ground, are replies to the propagandist elements who cry hoarse to belittle the work done by the government to ensure peace, equitable development, economic prosperity, transparency and public involvement in governance," Omar Abdullah said.
The chief minister, who is also the working president of the party, said that people are best placed to judge the performance of the government in the face of numerous difficulties.
"Overcoming problems of different nature, my government steered the (ship of) state through tumultuous waters," the chief minister said, adding that the march on the road to progress would continue with determination.
"With your unstinting support, we will lead you to prosperity and permanent peace," the chief minister said.
In his speech, Omar Abdullah listed his government's achievements in various sectors, including irrigation, healthcare, the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges, agriculture, education and drinking water, among other things.
The chief minister referred to the Public Service Guarantee Act and said that by this legislation, his government has ensured time-bound delivery of 70 important public services, besides ensuring transparency and reducing the chances of corruption and malpractice.
"My government gave you authority to demand certain identified services from the government departments in a fixed timeline, and if you do not get it in that time frame, the erring official will be liable for fine, which would be paid to the aggrieved consumer as compensation for delay in delivering the service," he said, asking the people to take the fullest advantage of this historic initiative.
Omar Abdullah said his party symbolised unity, solidarity, communal harmony and equitable and inclusive development of the state.
"The National Conference has remained the voice and heartbeat of the common people and propaganda against this party has always fallen flat on its detractors and enemies," the chief minister said.
